Polychromatic painting decorating the interior of a palace, Tiryns - 1400-1300 (p 47)

This out of ordinary book already published (1984) is now plubished again.
Only the standards were changed by the new one given by the F.C.I (2000).
Based on a serious documentation after years of searching,
this book is the first and the only one book recounting the long and beautiful story of the sighthounds.

"OUR LEVRIERS" is a work backed up by serious documentation and is, at least in Europe, the first book to give an account of the nature of these animals. Sloughis are unlike any other wild or domestic species ; their anatomical, morphological, physiological, psychic, and ethological particularies reveal them as an original species created by nature millions of years ago in the Tertiary era, probably in the Pliocene period.

A century of ignorance, laxity and administrative convenience in the West has resulted in the assimilation of sighthounds with canine breeds ; they have been incorporated into a dog based system. Such a system is appropriate for the canine species as it is still evolving but is pernicious for the greyhound species because it paralyses its developpment and brings the perenniality of th type into doubt.

Will it take a miracle to eliminate this heresy ?
Would zoological reasoning suffice ?

HISTORY, etymologically and in the more noble sense of "searching for the thruth", evokes the presence of greyhounds in the Sahara at a time when the desert was still a pleasant savannah, in the Near East and as far away as China.

It also tells us how, on the eve of the Christian era, whilst the West was unaware of greyhound, the Celts discovered sighthounds during their adventures in the Balkans and in Asia minor and introduced them into the Atlantic regions. Can History help rectify the sighthound's situation ? Given prehistory's recent progress in the field of dating the answer to this question is "yes". The third part of this thesis on the destiny of sighthounds consists of a text that is practically unknown in France : Flavius Arrien's "Hunting Treatise". Written by a character of high moral standing, a Stoic, a Roman General and a historian, the text constitutes the earliest
document in the history of sighthounds. Also annexed is the collection of sighthounds standards.

This book has been long awaited by sighthound- lovers. It represents all that is currently known about the species and establishes a new theory of the origin of the species. It lays the foundations for the revival that is essential for theirdevelopment and perenniality.
